Advantage Terengganu and Kelantan

New Straits Times Online

A Joseph Kalang Tie deflected goal gave defending champions Terengganu a slight advantage after edging 10-men Singapore LionsXII 1-0 in an FA Cup quarter-final first leg yesterday while Kelantan moved a step closer to the last four with a comfortable win.

Francis Doe twice struck the woodwork while a host of chances went begging as Terengganu were left to rue their failure to put LionsXII, with their talisman Shahril Ishak on the bench, away with the second leg in Jalan Besar looming on Tuesday.

Liberian Doe hit the post in the seventh minute and the crossbar in stoppage time besides having a scissor kick saved by Hyrulnizam Juma'at but it was not until Hariss Harun was given a straight red in the 54th minute for taking a swing at Doe did Terengganu find a breakthrough.
It came in the 65th minute when Joseph's shot from distance deflected off defender Sevki Sha'ban to wrongfoot Hyrulnizam.
LionsXII almost grabbed an equaliser in the 88th minute when Madhu Mohana forced Terengganu goalkeeper Sharbini Allawee Ramli into a flying save and from the resulting corner, Khairul Nizam Mohammad teed up a spectacular bicycle kick which smashed into the bar.
Kelantan effectively ended the fairytale run of FAM League club Public Service Commission (SPA) with a 3-0 win at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil with Norfarhan Mohammad scoring twice.
Despite dominating the first half with nine attempts on goal but only had captain Badhri Radzi's stoppage-time strike from the edge of the area to show for their efforts at half-time.
SPA could have taken a shock lead just minutes earlier but Khairol Azry Abdul Rahman's shot hit the post to the frustration of the club side.
Kelantan eased through the second half with Norfarhan's brace, scoring from a cross by Onyekachi Nwoha in the 54th minute before sealing the win 13 minutes from time.
Kedah and Kuala Terengganu T-Team have it all to play for after a 0-0 draw in Alor Star.
On Friday, Premier League side Sime Darby upset Johor FC 3-2 in Selayang
