AFC Cup last-16 beckons




Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Cup 2012 has entered the last-16 stage with the end of the first round of matches on Tuesday and Wednesday and promises exciting encounters including two national derbies, in Kuwait and Malaysia.


Group A leaders Al Qadsia will clash with fellow Kuwaitis Kuwait SC, who are the Group C runners-up, while Malaysia’s east coast side Kelantan, whose team logo shows a leaping mouse-deer, will lock horns with next-door neighbours Terengganu, the Malaysia FA Cup 2011 winners.





Below are the Round of 16 clashes, pending the formal adoption of fixtures and stadiums:


May 22
Qadsia (Kuwait) vs Kuwait SC (Kuwait)
Al Ettifaq (Saudi Arabia) vs Al Suwaiq (Oman)
Al Shorta (Syria) vs Home United (Singapore)
Chonburi FC (Thailand) vs Al Zawra’a (Iraq)


May 23
Arbil (Iraq) vs Neftchi (Uzbekistan)
Al Wehdat (Jordan) vs Kazma (Kuwait)
Kitchee (Hong Kong) vs Arema Indonesia (Indonesia)
Kelantan (Malaysia) vs Terengganu (Malaysia)
