MIRI: Sarawak went from the high of last week’s 3-1 home triumph over Singapore Lions XII to a listless 1-3 defeat to Pahang in Kuantan on Saturday.
Head coach Robert Alberts was left to rue the chances that got away as he drew comparison with the previous away match against T-Team (March 8) when they also lost 0-2.

“Sarawak must have that sort of aggression if the team were to win away matches like the one last night (last Saturday). We were dominating in th first half until Pahang got their lead,” said Alberts when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

Pahang took the lead in the 30th minute courtesy of a Ronny Harun own goal.
According to Alberts, the team seemed to have lost their concentration after the goal and were outplayed by Pahang for the rest of the match.

Pahang, last year’s Malaysia Cup champions, would go on to score two more goals in a space of 10 minutes in the second half.

The third goal came just as Sarawak was about to make changes.

“As I sensed that the team was in dire need of a change, I decided to make two substitutions. But as Ashri Chuchu and Milorad Janjus were just about to come in for S. Chanturu and Mohd Lot (Abu Hassan), Pahang tripled their lead,” the coach lamented.

The Crocs did show some improvement in the remaining 20 minutes. Rashid Aya scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes before the final whistle.

“Another lesson learned during the match is that our attackers need to be more clinical in the finishing. I hope we don’t repeat those mistakes again when we play our next match,” Alberts further observed.

The Crocs had better take those words seriously as their next three matches are against teams in the top half of the Super League table.

Sarawak are lying fifth with 12 points from 8 matches.

They will next play Selangor tomorrow (Mar 18) at the Stadium Negeri.
